Acupressure Yoga…in a Salt Cave

Yes, I said acupressure yoga. No, I didn’t even know that was a thing. Yes, I also said salt cave. I also did not know that was a thing. But they are both real and I tried them both. I found the acupressure yoga because as an added bonus there was going to be a sound bath, and the same person was going to be doing Biofield Tuning. No, I did not now that was a thing either.

My take away from the week was that the world is full of healing modalities I know nothing about and have never heard of. If you’re interested in trying it after reading my post the place I went is called Soleil’s Salt Cave. They were incredibly nice and it is a gorgeous place.

Anyway, acupressure yoga…

Acupressure yoga is a way of using yoga as more of a long slow stretch rather than a death defying downward dog ‘what was I thinking trying this?’ kind of thing (As you may be able to tell I have had some interesting experiences with yoga). Acupressure yoga in a salt cave was like doing slow gentle stretches while lying on a comfy, if slightly lumpy in a few places where the crystals had piled up, mattress. I have heard that some places have a flat floor but I can’t see how the would be comfortable at all.

I thought the salt crystals might feel sharp or be annoying but they were, in fact, amazing. They also closed the room off with a pair of huge doors, which felt wonderfully elegant, and pumped in salt in the air so we were breathing it in as we were lying in it. I was too relaxed to think about taking a picture so I pulled this one off their website.

I can honestly say I haven’t felt so relaxed in a long time. I have some pain in my lower back from an accident years ago and being on a bed of salt crystals meant I could push them into a little lumbar pillow of salt that helped me feel so comfortable while stretching out for things like the savasana at the end. I was much more centered and focused because my back pain wasn’t distracting me. An unintended benefit, but definitely a benefit of the floor being several thick inches of salt crystals.

There are also large rocks which they use for more ambient light along with the sections in the wall that are illuminated and the soft glow from the ceiling. It is a truly comfortable and comforting place to spend some time. Soleil’s offers all kinds of events you can attend, everything from yoga to drumming to past life regressions, but you can also just go and sit and relax. They have more than one room and they can give you blankets or bolsters or a very comfy lounge chair.

So what did I get from the experience? I was physically tired but felt more like I’d had a good massage than I’d done yoga. I was limber and relaxed and my back didn’t hurt. I was also breathing well in spite of some congestion I’d walked in experiencing, and my hair felt very soft. I have no idea why but it did. I also felt like I’d done something good for myself. You know that slightly virtuous feeling you get when you know you have done something healthy? I felt like that. Essentially, I loved everything about this night. It was two hours of complete relaxation and I’d recommend it to anyone as something to try if you only think you might be interested. It also led me straight to my next adventure…Biofield Tuning.
