Yoga in my living room

Why?

Well…why not?

No, seriously. I decided, back when New England decided to close schools and send us home to teach online, that I would need something to do in order to keep from getting frustrated with the situation. I needed some hobbies that would take my mind off things so I didn’t overthink the near constant deluge of news or get stir crazy. The gym was closed, the beaches were closed, the parks were closed…what was I going to do?

Well. Yoga came up because a woman I used to teach with was leading classes and promised she had a very beginner one. Sure, I thought, why not.? I had done a class with her before and only mildly felt like a Twizzler when we were done. It couldn’t be too bad could it?

That first class was an exercise in futility. I had no blocks or mat and the floor hurt my knees. No problem I was creative and made it work. Now all I had to do was figure out who the old lady huffing and puffing along with the yoga teacher was! Did I mention I was in much better shape when I took my live yoga class with my friend?

So on Thursday I asked my mom to join us and she did, along with some other students that my friend knew. After a couple weeks we settled down to a small beginning class with the rest of her students almost all going into a faster paced class. Not a problem for me at all. I learned a long time ago that any time you can get a small class with a great teacher you’re bound to learn more.

Now, twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00 I have a lovely class working on stretching and building core strength. I’m not sure how I’ll hold it all together once we go back to work, hopefully she’ll change times if we need to (fingers crossed).

I’m not saying I’m good at it but I’m certainly better than I was. Yoga at home on your living room floor…who thought it would be that life changing? Not me, that’s for sure.

Next time I’ll share how it led me to explore the chakras and experience my first chakra clearing.
