Making Art to Heal…in just 45 Minutes

You know what cortisol is? Because I’ve heard it in meetings about hyper sensitivity and in ads about stress and weight gain and even in medical shows when they inevitably tell someone their cortisol levels are high. But I didn’t really understand what it was or why it was important.

So when I saw that 45 minutes of creating a piece of art could lower your cortisol levels I said, “Sign me up!”

Now, it just so happened that my favorite Biofield Tuning expert Kara was holding a gathering at a local dojo where she and a friend of hers were going to be hosting a two part workshop. During which you would do some Biofield Tuning and some Art Therapy. Color me excited!

I know, that was unintentionally punny. For real though, I was excited. We met in the early evening for 90 minutes. It was just long enough to get into it but not so long that you were sitting there done and thinking ‘gee, what to do now?’ and twiddling your thumbs. We all introduced ourselves and started to get settled in for some Biofield Tuning. Which was, as always, perfectly lovely.

Then we got to pick something from a collection on the table that had some kind of meaning for us, or reminded us of something that had meaning for us, from this collection. I looked and saw crystals, then various shaped things, recognizable items, etc. I kept trying to decide between the crystal and this little figurine of a bird. Finally I picked up the bird.

I picked up the bird because I had been seeing a lot of barn swallows in my visualizations and meditations. No, I didn’t just ‘know’ it was a barn swallow…I had to go and look it up and spend some time finding the images that I had visualized. However, in the long run Siri showed me a barn swallow when I asked about small birds which are blue with an orange breast. So barn swallows are kind of a thing for me right now.

So I held not the bird figurine and created the most convoluted piece of art I’ve ever made. I folded the paper up like a huge origami…well, something. lol I folded one side into a fan, folded back some edges, drew on both sides of the paper to create overlapping images and had just started to color it in when we were out of time. I’m not going to lie, I really wanted to do more with it so I still have it and plan to work on it someday when the time is right.

One of the things I really liked about the workshop was the fact that it was small. Another thing was that it combined Biofield Tuning and art, both of which I love. I deeply enjoy times when two things become compatible and I get to enjoy both. Someday when I’m done with it I’ll post an image of my art.

For now I’m just focused on how combining energy healing with the cortisol lowering practice of creating art led me to think about other times I felt energized and relaxed. Which made me want to share my new cooking group…next time 🙂
