Art Journaling

I got an art journaling kit from Let’s Make Art recently and after trying to copy some of their suggestions I decided to make some pages of my own. For the sake of privacy I shot pictures of them before I added anything personal but you can see where I’ve made space to write lists of how I can take care of myself, where I want to travel to once the Covid 19 scare has passed, a place where I can put sticky notes about my writing ideas, and a page with a poem that starts the second of poetry and word art.

Why? Good question. I think it’s because I wanted to try something that would push me creatively but also give me a place to record all of the things I’ve been thinking. I picked the self care page, the travel page and the writing page to track things that are important to me in a list format. I’m essentially reminding myself that better days are coming and there are things I can do now that will keep me being told to stay home from driving me crazy. I chose the poetry pages because as cheesy as my poetry can be, I do it because it’s fun, not because I expect to be the next Poet Laureate. I think it’s important to have a place you can use as an outlet where you can do and be whoever you want so you’re truly free to express yourself. For me, the art journal is a fun experiment and something I’ll probably keep doing.

In terms of things I have tried to help myself over the year+ I’ve been exploring I think this was fun but I might be better served by a bullet journal. I don’t know if I have it in me to do one though. Instead I think I’m going to focus back on something I can do that it ‘just for fun’ and try the kirigami kit that I’ve had for a while.
